Waiting is a 25-minute piece inspired by my transition into adulthood, an experience which has been filled with new locations, friends, interests and musical influences. The work combines electronic and acoustic instrumentation, breaks boundaries between different styles of music and disrupts traditional thinking. It is a product of my love for rap and hiphop production and newfound inspiration drawn from minimalism, classical, EDM, and more.

Waiting is written for a modern rendition of a chamber music group, combining a mixed piano quintet with a synthesizer and sampler that plays electronic drum sounds and processed audio. The piece features six movements that were written as separate pieces over three years and later arranged to flow together and fit the hybrid chamber group. The music itself reflects the contrasting instrumentation, featuring intimate melodic sections, dance grooves and everything in between.

The piece is dedicated to my dad, who has always been my biggest fan.
